INTRODUCTION TO SERVICE DESIGN

17/11/15

This one day service design workshop, which was run by Lynsey Duncan, allowed our class to dive into the field of service design. From the outset it was a hands on program which promoted a 'learn by doing' method of teaching.

Beginning the day we were placed in pairs, and set specific tasks to carry out 'in the wild', i.e. my teams task was you have been injured, locate a Police station without the aid of any technology. This challenge forced us to engage with the public and threw up some interesting design problems along the way.

Following on from the findings of this task, our design 'VendiCare' was born. VendiCare was a vending machine that allowed the public to access first-aid equipment at the push of a button. In the case of an extreme situation, it also facilitated the user in contacting emergency services, through an intercom service verbal assisstence and guidance is available to individuals in a stressful situation while they wait for care.
